In the interests of low mass, the coils have only a few windings, which promotes liveliness but also reduces the output voltage by around three decibels compared with bronze. The Black repays the effort and investment with radical openness and accuracy. Like the larger Cadenza Black, it is a master of precise straightforwardness. Every note is in place, every instrument, every voice precisely delineated. In fact, Ortofon's best quintet presents tiny incidental noises as if on a silver platter, creating authentic ambience, especially in live recordings.
