- "Wanna bet? The most affordable sampler in Ortofon's Quintet range is going to be a hit. On the one hand, this is due to the fact that it is almost unrivalled: if you are looking for a low-output MC in this price range, you have little choice. On the other hand, newcomers, for example, from the more modest first-assembly MMs, will take a real step forward, since they will get a pickup that is as clean as a whistle in the manner of the Danes. The Red comes with an elliptical needle, which is also suitable for the narrow inner grooves and is attached to an aluminum tube by a solder cone. This tube moves a copper wire wound purging in the magnetic field. In terms of sound, the Quintet Red already forms a strong basis, hardly leaves anything to be desired dynamically, delivers sound images rich in shades in every respect, develops good spatial imaging as well as an even tonal balance. If cheap MCs often lack sonority and bass fullness, these reservations are unfounded here. The Red reproduces in colour and keeps track even in a dense orchestra, resolves cleanly and is therefore suitable for all types of music from classical to rock. In terms of attack, energy and radiance, it is even superior to Ortofon's recently discontinued Vivo Red, which cost 20 Euros more. There's probably no better way to enter the MC world."
