Der Kenwood kr-v 990d ist laut der Zeitschrift Heimkino das erste Dolby Digital(AC-3) fähige Gerät, welches im Consumerbreich auf den Markt kam. Er verfügt über ein koaxialen Digital Eingang. Das Gerät kam mit und ohne RDS auf den Markt, wobei ein Gerät ohne RDS meist Probleme mit dem decodieren von Dolby Digital(AC-3) über einen normalen DVD-Player hat. Hier kann man bei Kenwood für ca. 100€ die Platine austauschen lassen, damit dieser Dolby Digital fähig wird bzw. er das Signal richtig erkennt.
