• The Fisher 800 was the first of the 800 receiver series. In retrospect also called the 800A.
• The 800 series consisted of the models A, B and C. All of them were FM/MW receivers. The Fisher 800 (A) was first introduced in late 1959 / early 1960.

• In the 1950s, MPX stereo was not the only method of receiving stereo broadcasts. The Fisher 800 is capable of receiving stereo broadcasts using a variety of methods. From two separately receivable signal sources provided by radio stations. FM Stereo: the left channel is received by its own FM tuner, the right channel is received by an external second FM tuner. FM/MW Stereo: left channel is received by the dedicated FM tuner, right channel is received by the MW tuner. A multiplex adapter was available as an option, e.g. FISHER Model MPX-10. This adapter is required to receive multiplex (stereo) broadcasts. At that time a new way to transmit two stereophonic channels over a single station. All receivers were offered without housing.
