1938 wurde das weiterentwickelte Gerät K4 vorgestellt. Dieses Gerät, welches aufgrund der gewonnen Erfahrungen sehr stabil lief, wurde in allen großen Tonstudios und Rundfunkanstalten eingesetzt. Nicht nur die bessere Handhabbarkeit gegenüber den Wachsplatten bot Vorteile, auch die Haltbarkeit und Lagerung der Tonaufnahmen war jetzt sicher möglich.

Dieses begründet sich durch die Übernahme von kriegs-erbeuteten Geräten in die USA. Die "Konvertierung" auf die dort gelteneden Normen brachte diese Veränderung mit sich: 60Hz anstelle von 50Hz Netzfrequenz und Zoll bzw. Inch anstelle des metrischen Systems. Da die Fabriken der Deutschen Hersteller und auch der [[AEG]] in Trümmern lagen und viele Patente verloren gingen, setzten amerikanischer Herstelle die neuen Daten als Standard international um.
