Company profile
Wikipedia writes about Onkyo, among other things, "The company was founded in 1946 by Osaka Denki as Osaka Denki Onkyo K.K. and was initially limited to the manufacture of tonearms for record players. In 1985, Onkyo developed the first CD player with optical data transfer. Onkyo roughly means "sound harmony."" Today, Onkyo is one of the largest manufacturers of entertainment and audio electronics, along with Denon, Pioneer, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Sony and Yamaha. Stereo and multi-channel amplifiers, AV receivers and DVD players are the main contributors to this market position. In 2014, Onkyo acquired the majority of Pioneer's home electronics division. The current Onkyo Corporation umbrella includes the Integra and Integra Research divisions and the main Onkyo brand.
