Reviews

  • The TC-158 SD was an upmarket > aspirational portable cassette deck.
  • It was Sony's second largest portable, next to its big brother the TC-164 SD.
  • If you like, it was the forerunner of the Walkman, only slightly larger
  • It was about the same size as a Uher Report 4000 series tape recorder.
  • It was well suited for both outdoor and hi-fi use
  • The features are as follows:
    • Mains, battery operation (4 x mono cells) and external 6 volt connection.
    • Microphone (jack) and line inputs and outputs (Cinch & DIN!), if necessary with limiter possible
    • 2 large VU meters (illuminated) with common peak display
    • Dolby B
    • Tape types iron oxide, chrome and ferrochrome with 3-way bias switch
    • Large monitor speaker (mono), stereo via headphones
    • 2 audio heads, one of them F&F head, no rear band control possible
