  • Treble dynamic range (Ang. according to Stereo 9/92, p.34) at 315 Hz / 10 KHz: Chrome 76dB / 71.5dB, Metal 79dB / 76 dB .
  • Distortion: < 0.6% (-4 dB).
  • Auto-Reverse: No
  • Title search: Yes, up to 15 titles
  • Dolby: HX Pro, B/C NR
  • MPX Filter: Yes, rear panel
  • Fader: No
  • Pitch control: No
  • CD sync recording: Yes.
  • Tape flow 0db = 250 nWb/m
  • MPX filter (switch on rear panel)
  • Automatic tape type setting

Special features

  • Pioneer "Reference Master" Drive: Dual Capstan Drive
  • Central drive arrangement and two inner chassis: High structural strength, improved damping of spurious vibrations and reduced crosstalk between adjacent blocks
  • Inclined drive: Stabilizes synchronism and reduces tape vibration
  • Three-head assembly with monitor automatic (rear band control),
  • Coils made of oxygen-free single-crystal copper (PC-OCC) for the cleanest possible transmission.
  • Fine-grained capstan bearing: smoother tape run due to minimized surface roughness of the take-up side capstan bearing.
  • Super Auto BLE calibration computer with three ranges (Bias, Level, Equilizer) and at three frequencies,
  • Additional bias adjustment possible with +/- buttons (left side on front panel)
  • High quality power supply: lower noise and wide dynamic range due to better electrical characteristics
  • Vibration-damping design: Two inner chassis, robust honeycomb-reinforced chassis, cassette stabilization, decoupled cassette compartment door and large damper feet
  • Dolby B/C NR Noise Reduction and Dolby HX Pro
  • CD Deck Sync: Easy CD-to-Tape Dubbing with Pioneer CD Players
  • Digital Tape Tension Control: Consistently low start-to-finish synchronisation fluctuations
  • Recall Memory: The latest settings (Super Auto BLE data, manual bias setting, Dolby NR status, etc.) are retained in memory
  • Fluorescent level meter with "Meter Range": switchable to narrow range with increased resolution
  • Hold function: Peak level is held to the next value (good for recording settings)
  • Display can be switched off: To avoid possible noise interference
  • Music search: With direct access to the 15th track start in both band directions
  • 4-digit electronic tape counter with numerical time, real time and remaining time display
  • Mute recording button with automatic empty space function
  • Motor-assisted cassette compartment for loading and ejecting the cassette
  • Extra firm cassette hold after cassette retraction
  • Repeat function
  • Headphone output, adjustable
  • Timer pre-equipment for playback & recording (timer sold separately)

Remarks

  • New in 1992 is the change of the level display from the old Philips standard to the DIN standard (IEC94). 0db on the display now correspond to a tape flow of 250nWb/m instead of 160nWb/m as before.
  • Accordingly, the Dolby symbol is now 4db lower at -1db, instead of +3db as before.

The CT-S 710 is together with the Pioneer CT-S 910 the first model of Pioneer with centrally arranged drive. The reference master drive was mounted diagonally in a Z-shape. The following models have adopted this design.
