Brief description[edit]
- In contrast to its successors, which were no longer technically related to the A-XYX series, the A-701R was in fact a remotely controllable A-676 including the muting button of the larger models from A-7x7 onwards.
Apart from the "soft" standby switch used for this purpose instead of the "hard" power switch and the already "soft" muting button, the remotely controllable functions are realized by motorized potentiometers, specifically at the volume and input selection potentiometers. The successors, of which the A-702R is the most solid model, could no longer offer the robust construction and durability inherited from the A-XYX series, e.g. the volume potentiometer was no longer mounted directly on the main board and operated by a shaft from the front of the unit as in the A-701R, but was connected to the rear part of the unit by cables (as in today's units), also the honeycomb construction, which was present everywhere before, even in the feet, disappeared.
