- The device sounds excellent and is very powerful. Unfortunately, Pioneer has also built in this price range all switches and pots of the type Stauboffen, which is noticeable after a few years by scratching or sound dropouts.
- In practice, the device showed a much higher performance. According to a test of the magazine Audio it was output powers of 105 watts at 8 ohms and 175 watts at 4 ohms. Also, I think I know that this test also measured 229 watts into 2 ohms. Since a 2Ohm specification for the sine wave power was not in the manual, I would take this information with caution.
According to technical documents up to 1 Ohm load stable, but without power specification (up to 300 watts?).
Pioneer A 702 R-G (G stands for Satingold): this unit is very rare, the black one is more common. Externally it is identical to the A 602 R, but inside it has a much more sophisticated power amplifier. Bigger transformer, 8 transistors on the black heat sink, 18.000 electrolytic capacitors. It is the most powerful and largest remote Pioneer integrated amp I know of to date. Not to be compared with the A 701 R or A 705 R, which are not as elaborate. The input selector, often blessed with contact difficulties with age, can be repaired by disassembly and cleaning.
