Remarks[edit]
The 1249 has the same "Flywheel" belt drive with a sub-disc (ALU) attached to the axle and a turntable resting on it as the older 601 single player. However, it has a weaker platter bearing due to the interchangeable axle. Also, the zinc die-cast of the 601 has given way to the aluminium die-cast of the 1249. The tonearm of the 1249 has been reworked compared to the 601 and has a very low bearing friction and a counter-oscillator in the counterweight, which allows a high scanning capability and safe scanning even of cartridges that actually require a tonearm with a lower effective mass for optimal operation.
- Like all pre-ULM arms (Ultra Low Mass) from Dual, the arm of the 1249 belongs to the lighter medium weight arms with an effective mass of ~ 12gr. including subheadshell (TK).
- The motor is an 8-pole AC synchronous motor without servo electronics (SM840).
The speed fine adjustment is done mechanically by spreading a slotted drive roller and is very sensitive.
- Drive and tone arm are qualitatively superior to current Dual models (CS-455,505-4).
- The factory-installed pickup was chosen with consideration of the change function and is clearly below the capabilities of the device.
- When used as a single player, it is essential to install a higher quality cartridge.
- Even MCs are no problem as long as they are not explicitly designed for heavy arms.
- A few years ago still a bargain, he now achieves quite handsome prices in the second-hand market.
