The main weakness of the DSP-E 492 is a conceptual one,because in fact the device does not serve as a configurable 3 channel extension of an existing stereo system,but degrades the existing integrated amplifier or receiver to the power amplifier for the front channels. This is still ok for a mid-range system. But if you already have a top class stereo system who sacrifices the quality of the existing preamplifier to this 3-channel extension for 5.1 surround sound.
