Comments[edit]

The BR 140 came in at least two different versions. The cabinets were always the same. The loudspeakers were also always identical and the bass reflex tubes were also exactly the same length and thickness. BR tube length: 10 cm. Diameter inside 51 mm. Outside 65 mm. Externally they differed only by the decor and the cover, and an "a" logo on the high quality version:

  • Version 1:
    • Fabric cover, attached with plastic frame dowel.
    • Bell ferrite coil in the woofer branch.
  • Version 2:
    • Metal perforated grille cover, clamped; special logo on grille, showing a small "a".
    • Large, high quality air core coil in the woofer branch. This high quality enamelled copper wire coil is secured with a wooden plate and a special brass screw, resulting in low distortion, typical for high-end speakers.

Otherwise the crossovers are equipped with air coils of the same high quality for the tweeter dome and midrange dome. Felt pads serve as underlay. In order to distribute the mounting pressure on the coils, there were thin wooden plates or plastic discs. The soldering was done by hand, the wiring is neatly done with double strands. The leads are color coded. The terminal is cast airtight inside. There is a mat of damping material, so it does not drone. At the waveguides is a sealant underneath, so everything is nice and tight.

The BR 140 and 140 "a" were really high quality speakers with extremely well made voice coils on featherlight silk domes, which is rarely surpassed even today.
