• For audiophile purists, Thorens launched the TD 160 Super in the early 1980s. This version was technically similar to the TD 160 Mk II, but featured a larger platter bearing (diameter 10 mm), a larger and more solid cabinet (MDF instead of chipboard) and a sub-chassis with special vibration damping. The standard platter mat was replaced by a resonance absorbing one. This turntable was offered ex works without tonearm, but due to different tonearm bases its owner had a wide choice of tonearms (9").
