Luxury full amplifier of the top class which remained at that time pretty much under the radar of the aimed and then after replacement by the next model was sold for half the price. Which of course was an absolute bargain for people who had budgeted 1k for a new integrated amplifier. for a new integrated amplifier. Contrary to what is often claimed, the F800ES does not have a dual mono power supply. One transformer supplies both power stages of the power amplifiers, the other one supplies the driver stages and the phono equalizer. Very generous filter capacities all round. Elaborate sub power supplies in discrete design. Classic Class A/B power amplifiers with FET input and BJT power stages. stages. Channel-separated construction of the phono stage with 2SK147 input differential stages,active equalization and NE5532P opamp output stages. The German version is equipped with some FTZ gimmicks and is also "harder" counter-coupled than the original. Sonically, the F800ES is tuned somewhat in the direction of pleasant Schönklinger, as is typical for Sony.
