This is a programmable universal remote control unit with LCD touch screen. This was very popular as an extra accessory for surround sound devices, because it was programmable at will and also had some macro functions, where you could combine different command functions (of different AV devices) to allow simultaneous on/off and switching.
(Such as switching the amplifier to tuner/radio and tuning the radio to your favorite station at the same time).
