Reviews[edit]
The Pioneer deck CT-W851R with Super Auto BLE is among the best units of this dual-tape deck era. Of course, since the CT-W851R is a dual tape deck, with two drives each with 2-tone heads and Auto Reverse installed, you can't expect any rear tape control when recording. But with the other features, that's just about enough to get over. Among other things, separate Dolby© components are built in, which means that you could theoretically also copy from Dolby© C to Dolby© B. The Super Auto BLE (Bias/Level/EQ) calibration system developed by Pioneer works top and always reliably. The recording computer here, as with all Super Auto BLE devices, is equipped with an 8-bit DA converter. The band calibration is adjusted at 400 Hz, 3,000 Hz and 15,000 Hz respectively. The system works very reliably and during the calibration process it rewinds and forwards a few times as if by magic and then processes the three calibration parameters (Bias/Level/EQ) one after the other. The individual tape calibration is thus a real gain when recording cassettes. Incidentally, Pioneer's Super BLE calibration was considered arguably the best of its kind in the 1990s. Recording is possible with both decks/drives on this well-equipped unit, and most functions can also be controlled via the included CU-T015 remote control. Thus, in principle, only a few wishes remain open with this tape deck. Maybe a discreet illumination of the cassette slot would have been useful, because the tape material still available during a recording can only be controlled with experience or via the counter.
