• The A-x09 series is an only slightly improved A-x07 series (stabilizers); basically the A-x09 units are the MkII versions of A-x07. The A-x07 units are the first series with the current Pioneer hifi design. Not all A-x07 amplifiers have been replaced by A-x09 versions. For example, the A-307R and A-607R are still manufactured and sold as such.

• The A-509R have been number upgraded.

The predecessors of the A-509R are A-405R and A-407R. With the A-407R came the new front panel design, the A-509R is distinguished from the A-407R by the surround back mode and the small improvements of the A-x09 series (stabilizers). The performance data remained the same. The A-505R and A-605R evolved into the A-607R, these three have a toroidal transformer.
