Technical faults:
Units were shipped with faulty audio board. This error leads to faulty digital output (coax & optical output) of pre-emphasis CDs!
Technical change () = old values:
R3312 & R3324 change to 10K (22K)
R3318, R3313, R3330 & 3325 change to 22K (24K)
R3319 & R3331 change to 10K (22K)
R3362 & R3358 change to 12K (10K)
C2336 & C2346 change to 1.5nF (1nF)
C2341 & C2351 change to 1.5nF (1nF)
C2335 & C2345 change to 51pF (680pF)
C2327 & 2332 change to 1uF (33uF)
L5304, L5303, L5306 & L5305 change to 820uH (1000uH)
After this change the digital outputs may crack. To avoid this, solder a 1M resistor across C2342, C2335, C2352 & C2345!
Not affected was the CD850, here all changes were implemented in the factory!
Occurring errors:
C2521 loses capacity. This has the consequence that the laser current increases, which can lead to the destruction of the CDM4 unit!
CD holder: Plastic part (part no. 155) gets a hole through the ball (part no. 157), leads to "jumping" of the CD, especially after transport of the player!
Gear wheel for drawer mechanism dissolves or becomes porous and breaks!
Remarks[edit]
First real 1 bit player!
Test result of Stereoplay 06/90 49-51 points.
For comparison test result of the CD880 from issue 03/88 43-45 points.

It is possible to put the player into the so-called "Trade Mode" (demonstration mode). To do this, the player must be switched off with the CD in the unit. Press the buttons "Time", "Fast Reverse", "Next" simultaneously and switch on. To exit the mode, press "Open/ Close" on the remote control.
