Reports[edit]

  • Negative noticed points:
    • (These do not have to correspond to the truth, they are experiences of different users).
  • gets too hot at setting 6 Ohm and is then not to be operated in an AV rack.
  • Power consumption too high. Even at very low volumes and in 4 ohm operation you are immediately at 50W consumption.
  • If HDMI Through is activated to loop through HDMI in standby and wait for TV commands, the device consumes almost 40W. In "real" standby actually 0W.

The transformer of the device hums in operation.

  • Speakers hiss quietly with Audyssey Dynamic EQ.
  • Inverted Sourround channels when feeding sound signal via HDMI as linear PCM (Bitstream at PS3 fat for HD Audio not possible).
  • The different sound effects need partly very much computing time, thereby it comes to larger latency times.
  • The problem with the swapped surround channels in multichannel PCM operation. Receiver must be sent to an Onkyo service partner.
  • The unit has a strong smell to begin with, and the smell is very slow to subside. The main source of the stench seems to be the resin potted transformer.

The clicking of the relays in the unit, e.g. when changing sources or modes, is unnecessarily loud.

  • Firmware updates only available from service partners.
  • The AV receiver can not output analog video signals via HDMI
  • does not have 1080p video upscaling

  • Despite the problems you should not be deterred from buying,
    • perfect devices do not exist. The reviews on Amazon were mostly positive
