- Test in Stereo 10/1997: Very good, 2 stars. "Sonically, however, the TA-6511 is pleasingly on top of things: voices come through smoothly and quiet passages with little noise, at least on chrome tape." (Stereo 10/1997, p.56)
- Test in Audio 7/1998 (last comparison test for cassette decks): upper class, sound 65 points, 3 ears. Very good external voltage distances are praised. ""airy-structured, detailed sound images ... Attributes such as musically fine, nicely made, modernly equipped and easy to operate are right here. This makes the Onkyo an excellent choice." (Quote Audio 7/98, p.16)
