Naim CDX2 MKII
The CDX2 is one of the best players in its class - if not the best. As a stand-alone unit, it represents the entry point to the Reference Series, and in conjunction with the optional XPS or CD555PS power supply, it comes close to the best players in the world. The CDX2 plays music with believable naturalness, combining the thrilling musicality of high-quality analog sources with reliability and ease of use.
The CDX2's drive suspension and an extremely light magnetic CD puck ensure that the CD runs as smoothly and with as little vibration as possible, and that the laser can read the digital data without interference. The weight of the manually operated front tray has been carefully calculated to ensure mechanical stability and isolation from vibration. Operating this CD drawer may be unusual at first, but it's a lot of fun!
To maintain sound quality, the signal paths between the major components have been kept as short as possible. After eight-fold oversampling, the signal is passed to a pair of Burr Brown 24-bit D/A converters. A dedicated optimised master clock monitors all the key digital functions and, thanks to its configuration, prevents so-called jitter (sound-damaging deviations from the specified timing), while a seven-pole analogue filter at the output of the D/A converters eliminates any spurious signals that may occur. The converters also have an HDCD function, but this is only activated when suitably encoded CDs are played.
The main control functions are monitored by a microprocessor running Naim's own software. The advantage of this bespoke solution is that every function of the microprocessor is fully tuned to the Naim designers' vision. For example, the processor re-evaluates all drive parameters each time a CD is inserted.
