Lexicon Bandwidth

Specification of a Frequencyrange in which a device or component operates.

For Filters, the lower and upper Cutoff Frequency are specified, which are the frequencies at which the signal is attenuated by 3dB. Between these cutoff frequencies, the attenuation is lower (bandpass).

For radio transmitters, the bandwidth is defined by the lower and upper cut-off frequencies of the radiated signal. Usually these are symmetrical about the carrier frequency, and the bandwidth is determined by the type of modulation.
