  • Model: Float QA
  • Year of manufacture: 2012 onwards
  • Made in: Gehring/Germany
  • Weight: approx. 450 gram
  • Original price headphones approx.: 1.350,- €

Technical data headphones

  • Principle: electrostatic push-pull transducer with constant charge
  • Coupling to the ear: completely open (design head loudspeaker)
  • Nominal impedance: 4 to 16 Ohm
  • Rated power handling:
  • Contact pressure: virtually zero, since with an average head diameter, the headphone's bracket shape places the transducers free-floating in front of the ears.
  • Frequency response:
  • Distortion factor:
  • Maximum sustained sound level:
  • Characteristic sound pressure level:
  • Connector: 6-pin ( type )
  • Pin assignment: 1:, 2:, 3:, 4:, 5:, 6:
  • Cable length: approx. 4.5m ribbon cable 6-pin.
  • Operation of the Float QA handset is only possible with the Jecklin xxx power supply(s).

Technical Data Power Supply

PS QA:

  • Aluminium housing
  • Transmission ratio:
  • Number of transformers:
  • Bias voltage: approx.
  • HV cascade on main board
  • Mains voltage: 220 V / 110 V optional
  • Power consumption:
  • Signal connection: Screw terminals
  • Switch for switching headphones/speakers?
  • Overload protection:

Special Features

  • A special power supply is required to operate the headphones. The power supply is connected to the loudspeaker output of the amplifier as well as to the mains voltage in order to generate the bias voltage for the electrostats by means of a diode cascade circuit. The audio signal is modulated in the power supply unit to the high voltage required to operate the headphones. The power supply is equipped with a switched loudspeaker output which allows the input signal to be switched through to connected loudspeakers. The headphones are then deactivated in this switching state.

Remarks[edit]

The Float QA is the modern successor of the legendary Float electrostat and is manufactured since the year 2012 in manufactory production at Quad-Musik in Gehring, located west of Koblenz. It was developed in collaboration with Jürgen Jecklin. Wearing comfort: ??? The "head speaker" rests loosely on the "average head" and requires a steady posture to avoid falling off. For "above average head shapes or sizes", the ears are pinched; there is no adjustment to different head sizes or shapes due to the rigid design. This may be one reason for the controversial and sometimes quite subjective opinions. Main competitors with the same transducer principle are the models from Stax.
