• Note EU vs. international version:
  • According to the service manual, the German or European version of the HK 690 is set up differently than the International version. The difference is that in the international version a J-FET IC AD746 (U3) is installed and for the German market an IC NE5532, this supplies, after Source Direct (On), directly the output stage, with switch OFF (Source Direct) the IC U3 supplies the tone control. After the tone control "IC U4" (NE5532) an IC U11 (AD 712) is installed (buffer amplifier?), this IC U11 is missing in the SM (international version)!. After IC U11 it goes into the (IC U5) JRC4556 "headphone amplifier" and into the power amplifier. So this HK 690 is not, like the older integrated amplifiers from Harman/Kardon, completely discrete.
