Special Features

  • 'DIRECT CONTROL' drive system, combining the advantages of belt and direct drive. The belt drive is controlled by a tachogenerator in the drive pulley. This ensures a constant speed even when the load on the drive varies, e.g. due to cleaning brushes, temperature or mains fluctuations.
  • Tonearm balance integrated in the locking position socket.
  • Adjustable tracking force and antiskating. Separate scales for spherical and elliptical needle grind available for antiskating.
  • Sprung sub-chassis with three leaf springs coupled to the frame.

Remarks[edit]

  • Identical in construction to Philips AF 887
  • The stock headshell has a 1/2" hole spacing but no slotted holes, so only Philips Super M II series cartridges fit accurately. In order to be able to use pickups from other manufacturers, Philips made a 1/2" universal headshell with slotted holes with the order number 4822 402 60627.
