Remarks[edit]

The French 4-way floorstanding speaker with the famous inverse dome tweeter was in a class of its own in the price segment of the time, as proven in various listening tests (e.g. HiFiVision ONYX spectacular test winner). The 3-way bass reflex design ingeniously includes a second bass driver at the bottom, which is controlled by the crossover and only handles the lowest frequencies. The bass drivers are separated so that both have their own working volume. This means that this lower bass driver basically acts as a subwoofer, which makes an additional sub superfluous, an advantage if, for example, space and costs are to be saved. Each of the two 20 mm bass drivers in the LS has a precisely defined bass reflex tube at the rear. Even a placement close to the wall is absolutely uncritical. The finely resolving midrange driver has a horn front, which helps it to achieve an even wider dispersion. The tweeter is the well known Focal Kevlar inverse dome. Inverse because it radiates the high frequencies much wider than conventional domes due to the inward curved cone. Kevlar because it impresses with minimal weight and maximum strength.

Test reports[edit]

The hi-fi magazine STEREOPLAY attested (1989) the Focal Temptation a reference status in the top class: "About the sound of the Temptations I could write now in a prolix blissful way, only this much: Wow!"
