Comments[edit]
- This Dac is totally underestimated. There are various modifications that bring it to a contemporary sound level. Unfortunately it is often said that the device can only process 20 bit signals. In fact 24 bit files are no problem and run up to 48 Khz without any problems. A well modified DA-500 is in no way inferior to various DACs that work with the PCM1704. It is only available at a much lower price.
Many call it a high end converter. It is simply extremely far away from that. It sounds, probably also by aging, extremely boring and flat.
However, anyone who has ever heard a professionally rebuilt version that includes, for example, all capacitors, the operational amplifier and the clock does not need to worry about a new acquisition.
Extreme musicality, impeccable fine dynamics and spatiality provide surprises and top some current Dacs into the three-digit euro range.
