Clarion

The company was founded in December 1940 as Hakusan Musen Denki K.K.. (German "Hakusan drahtlose-Elektrik-AG") in Bunkyō, Tokyo and initially produced battery-powered radios for household use. In 1947, the brand name Clarion (derived from a wind instrument from ancient Greece) was introduced and Japan's first car radio was produced in February 1951. Clarion developed the world's first fully transistorized car radio in 1959. In December 1970, the company changed its name to the current Clarion. The first audio component systems were introduced in 1978.
