Bob Carver made his name by duplicating the audio qualities of high-end amplifiers in equipment he sold for a fraction of the cost. He challenged 2 well-known audio magazines: Give me an amp and I will duplicate the sound without opening the unit. He successfully duplicated a $12,000 amplifier with gear that he eventually sold for $600-$1200 and that passed blind tests by the two magazines.
