Term for the flow of electrical charge carriers, mostly electrons. The strength of the current is a measure of the number of elementary charges (e.g. electrons) that flow through an imaginary interface per unit of time. The unit for electric current is the Ampere (after the French physicist André Marie Ampère), abbreviated A.
