Bowers & Wilkins (better known as B&W) was founded in 1966 by John Bowers and Peter Hayward in Worthing, southern England, under the name B&W Electronics.
The 1966 P1 bookshelf speaker model was B&W's first commercially manufactured loudspeaker. This was shortly followed by the P2, the first commercial floorstanding loudspeaker. The 801 model became the reference speaker in many recording studios around the world in the 1970s.
