Originally named Aurex, Toshiba's history began in 1875. The former company name AUREX was used again by Toshiba in the early 1980s to distinguish the more high-end from the normal device series.

1978, the design and manufacture of the world's first digital synthesizer tuner ST910. 1980, the first true hi-fi mini systems in the world from Toshiba, System 10, 12 and 15, bear the former company name AUREX, a reminiscence of the former tradition of the Toshiba company. Turntables of the absolute top class (10 models) were also offered by Aurex for a long time, e.g. the SR-510E, today very sought-after and rare to find. 1980 ~ 82 Aurex produced 22 different loudspeaker models ranging from small shelf speakers to large floorstanding speakers, including the 59 kg 2-way model SS-930S. Tape decks, 15 models, including the two decks of the absolute top class, PC X 80AD (with adres noise reduction - 84 dB signal-to-noise ratio and a dynamic range of fabulous 100 dB!) and the tape deck PC-6030.
