Remarks

Based on proven technology, the goal of the Thorens developers was to invent a record player that not only sounded good, but also had an elegant external appearance and stood on its own as an object. The technical prerequisites for dynamic playback of records were created by a solid wooden frame and a wooden platter mounted in a sandwich construction. In this way, the turntable ensures quiet, muffled scanning. The springy feet absorb impact sound and externally influencing vibrations. A massive turntable effectively diverts and dampens disturbing scanning noises and vibrations. The mass is also a guarantee for smooth synchronisation. To ensure perfect synchronisation in both 33 1/3 and 45 rpm, the Thorens sub-platter is driven by a synchronous motor via a belt. The control electronics is operated by a start/stop button and switches off at the end of the platter, which helps to protect the needle. Bearing and arm are built in good Thorens tradition and are regarded as the optimum par excellence in this class. The turntable, which is available in various cabinet versions, has been given a multi-applied piano lacquer finish, giving the Thorens TD 295 MK IV a truly "shiny" noble appearance.
