Myro Wild Thing Project 318

Description

The model is a custom development of the Myro Wild Thing 3 C with extreme 18-inch bass module. Low bass reproduction alone is not the goal. The very flat phase response with the accompanying time correctness is aimed for.
A truncated pyramid shaped enclosure was designed for the bass.
Advantages:

  • low standing waves
  • few walls with parallel edges
  • equalization of the sound travel times
  • slim at the top

In addition, the walls are built as a sandwich and are stabilised on the inside by stiffeners.
The bass module has a height of about 87 cm. The listening position is relatively high.
The 18" woofer fades out gently at about 100 Hz, depending on which coil is finally used. This is only possible because the midrange / bass driver of the top is operated without high pass. Due to the very low Q it is heavily damped. The efficiency is based on the top of about 88 dB/Wm. The impedance frequency response is very smooth, varying slightly around 5 ohms. The electrical phase frequency response is corresponding.
