Remarks

During the later years of production, an "SP" version of the speaker was released, distinguished from the "S" version by foil instead of wood veneer, which was supposed to look a bit more modern. 980SP speaker and crossover equal to the 980S 2e version. Advantage of the 980 - SP version: connections on the rear panel.

1e version can be recognised by the *MB* logo on the front and the cover has 6 fixings (6 pins). The tweeter MCD25 has square dimensions (95x95 mm). It is the same height as it is wide.

2e version can be identified by the *MBQuart* logo on the front and the cover has 4 fixings. (2 pins + 2 slide-in mounts). The serial numbers of the 2e version: 10000 to 15388.

Both 980S versions have the connectors on the bottom. At the beginning of production of version 2, old "MB" logos were still used. For all versions: If made in real wood veneer, there was always a sticker on the back panel with a note that real wood can discolor due to the influence of light. During the production of all 980S series various changes were made: other driver series (95-6xxx), cheaper crossover components, rectangular instead of square tweeter front panel, etc.. Possibly the above mentioned technical data do not match "your" 980S. If in doubt, please contact the service department of the MB Quart successor "GermanMAESTRO" with the serial number of the loudspeaker.
