Remarks

  • Many controls and buttons are hidden under a hinged metal strip (headphone output as well);
  • Aluminum front panel - especially impressive on the champagne-colored model;
  • One of the few elaborate units with dual-capstan drive in a horizontal drive design
  • Very stable construction. 9 (!) screws secure the cabinet, sound shafts and head carriage are mounted on die-cast base
  • Shielded power supply for reduced radiation transmission

The adjustable headphone output (= output level) is also the variable RCA output: If it is set low, the playback volume to the amplifier is also quite low. This has to be considered when playing. There is a technical similarity to the Harman Kardon TD-470, only these two units were manufactured with double capstan tape guide. Also the "smaller" Denon cassette decks DRS-610 and DRS-640 have similar construction to the Harman Kardon TD-420 and TD-450 respectively.

  • Predecessor model: none
  • Successor model: none
