Remarks

The Audio Source EQ-ONE has a very high measuring and control accuracy, like very expensive studio units. This precise device has all the possibilities to make a multitude of exact adjustments in a stereo system easily and effectively, whereby occurring errors can be quickly detected and corrected. Purpose: The EQ-One serves a variety of functions, but mainly to compensate for the influences of the listening room, which are determined by the setup and placement of the speakers. Since each room has its own specific acoustics, speakers tested in a demonstration room may sound different in their listening room or in another listening room. The individual frequency curve of the loudspeaker cabinets therefore depends to a large extent on the nature of the listening room. Since this cannot be adjusted to the requirements of the loudspeakers, or can only be adjusted with difficulty, the most important task of the EQ-One is to produce a flat frequency response for each stereo channel separately, which is to be understood as a correction of the existing, uncorrected frequency response and which compensates for influences such as frequency dips and "standing waves". The AUDIO SOURCE EQ-One is not only used in hi-fi applications, but also in recording studios, home recording and on stage. Mode of operation: The EQ-ONE equalizes by a synthetically generated pink noise signal, which is composed of equal parts of all frequencies. This signal is reproduced through the loudspeakers in its entire frequency response and picked up by the condenser microphone. This signal will now not give a flat frequency response in its mid-frequency range, but individual mid-frequency ranges will be either above or below the linear line indicated by the green LED. The actual frequency range reproduced by the speakers will be visible through the display. This information is used to operate the equalizer section of the EQ-ONE, whose slider controls, which correspond to the frequency center ranges of the display, can be used to set a flat frequency response.
