Term for an electronic component. The term is also used for the relationship between (dc) voltage across a device and (dc) current through the device, expressed in units of ohm.

Resistance can be viewed graphically as an obstacle to the flow of current. When current flows through a resistor, electrical energy is converted into heat. This causes the component to heat up.
