Reports
- Since 1991 I have been running the Yamaha CDX 550E with a Denon PMA860 amp, connected to new Oehlbach Silver Plus RCA (0.5m)and Orbid Sound Pluto speakers. No matter which speakers have been connected in the last 16 years, the warm and spacious sound of the two main players is always noticeable. The Denon amp supports the Yamaha player in its clean, warm and neutral playback, and when it needs it, it is also powerful. The CDX 550 E even accepts burned CDs without a murmur.
Not one failure in 17 years shows also in times of "Geiz is Geil" mentality that Hifi does not have to be expensive. For the 1991 paid 1400.00 DM (amp and CD player) certainly (for me) a lot of money, in retrospect, however, an absolute bargain. Even my new purchases (Kenwood receiver and Teufel 6.1) for the home cinema do not produce nearly the round and (almost) perfect music character of the Yamaha & Denon team.
