A versatile powerhouse

The new multi-channel power amplifier 100x5R:10 has the same dimensions as the highly regarded TAG McLaren five-channel amplifier 100x5R but offers up to 10 channels of amplification, courtesy of a newly-developed two-channel 2 x 80 Watt amplification module.

80 Watt stereo modules can be combined with 150 Watt single channel monobloc modules to provide between 2 and 10 channels of amplification.

100x5R:10 purchased with fewer than 10 channels may be upgraded to add extra channels at a later stage.

Five-channel power amplifiers 100x5R can be upgraded to 100x5R:10, for details click here.

Versions purchased with fewer than 10 channels may be upgraded to add extra channels at a later stage.

The Stereo-Module has been made possible by design advances that first appeared in the three-channel amplifier 250x3R, itself based on technology developed for the forthcoming F1 monobloc amplifier F1-600MR.

Almost Endless Versatility

The 100x5R can be equipped with up to five modules. A 2 x 80 Watt stereo module and a 1x 150 Watt monobloc module are available, allowing configurations of between 2 and 10 channels. But that's not all: each Stereo module offers three different modes of operation, selected by a slide-switch on the rear of the module:

Stereo Mode

In this mode, the two channels within a Stereo Module are independently fed from their two separate INPUTS. The signal connected to line INPUT 1 (2) will be available, in amplified form, on the loud speaker connectors OUTPUTS A (B). The maximum power output with both channels driven is 80 Watt / 8 Ohm.

Bi-amplification Mode

In this mode both channels within a stereo module are driven from INPUT 1 whilst any signal connected to INPUT 2 will be ignored. The maximum power output with both channels driven is 80Watt/8 Ohm. This mode can be used to drive e.g. two sections within a loudspeaker with separate amplifiers through two sets of connecting speaker cables (-> bi-amping).

Channel Bridging Mode

In this mode both amplifier channels within a Stereo-Module are combined to give an amplifier of twice the power. In actual fact the performance comes very close to the single channel Monobloc-Module. The combined amplifier is driven from INPUT 1, any signal presented to INPUT 2 is ignored. In this mode the loudspeaker must be connected between the OUTPUTS A + and the OUTPUTS B + terminals, shown as C OUTPUT connection. The power output of the combined amplifier is approx. 160 Watt / 8 Ohm.

Outstanding engineering

Standby without concern The control circuitry for the 100x5R:10 is powered by its own small transformer for optimum sound quality and the most efficient energy usage in standby.

muting Both modules include a sophisticated muting system which prevents loud, annoying switching noises and protects the amplifier and loudspeakers.

pure oxygen free copper loudspeaker connectors For excellent sound quality the 100x5R:10 uses high grade gold plated oxygen free high purity copper (OFHC) loudspeaker terminals, designed and manufactured by TAG McLaren. Very few companies provide OFHC loudspeaker terminals due to the difficulties of machining solid copper.

The benefits of OFHC are clearly audible: improved clarity and transparency, even when compared to high percentage copper alloy terminals.

The knobs of the 100x5R:10 have been manufactured from non-conductive Pocan without a metal insert as it was found that this gave the best sonic result as it minimises the cross section, essential for best electro-magnetic compatibility.

The TAG McLaren OFHC copper terminal allows for spade connection, as this is superior to all other types of loudspeaker cable connections. Please make sure that you use a high quality loudspeaker cable, such as our Cable AvantGarde.

TAGtronic Communications Bus The 100x5R:10 features the TAGtronic Communications Bus. This will allow TAG McLaren Audio products to work seamlessly together to form an effective, fully integrated system.

Even remote control codes can be transferred from a TAG McLaren AV processor or DVD player to the 100x5R:10 over the TAGtronic Bus, allowing the 100x5R:10 to be operated out of sight. It can therefore be mounted in a convenient unobtrusive location, as long as it is provided with adequate ventilation.

The AV30R / AV32R / AV192R can also control channel switching and mute via the TAGtronic Bus.

Made to last The finned centre section of the three part fascia is machined from a solid aluminium extrusion and is then fine-paint finished. To complete the fascia assembly the two extruded end caps are machined, bead blasted and lined to create an even texture which is then chemically brightened and hard black anodised or precision painted.
