Remarks

  • The official market launch of DSR was in 1989 and was significantly promoted by the then Deutsche Bundespost. The transmission took place over the satellite Kopernikus and/or the signal was fed in also digitally over the cable network. Other providers of such terminals were e.g. the companies Telefunken and Technisat. However, DSR broadcasting did not catch on and was too expensive and complex. DSR was used exclusively for audio transmission - there was no transmission of picture signals. At the same time as DSR was introduced, digital radio for terrestrial reception (DAB) was already being developed. Grundig played a major role in the development of DAB reception and terminal equipment. In the development of DSR terminals, Grundig, together with Telefunken, was also one of the pioneers and also one of the first suppliers of terminals. There were hardly any non-European suppliers for DSR reception. Already at the end of the nineties (1999) the broadcasting of DSR programs was stopped. Since this time the DSR devices are UNUSABLE! They are not usable for any still existing transmission formats (UKW, DVB, DAB2). There are only a few combination devices (e.g. Grundig ST 303), which additionally contain an analogue FM receiver.
