I was about to get away from LP's, when I found an Onkyo Pl-33 tangential arm turntable at the Basel flea market (summer 2006). And since then, getting rid of LP's is out of the question.

The PL-33 (not to be confused with the PL-33X) is a super unit that is nothing but a joy to play: tangential arm, direct drive, cabinet made of metal, the tonearm of a special synthetic resin material. The design is fantastic. This record player, only as big as an LP itself, matches the most modern furnishings. It has touch keys as if made of glass. The main door opens to a sufficient angle by motor drive, so that you can change the records even if the device is tightly stowed in a box.

But very important for me: the tonearm unit is not in the lid, but in the bottom part. I can play the records even with the cover open. A device with the unit in the hood was out of the question for me.

Right after the flea market purchase in 2006 I could buy two PL-33, one at ebay-DE and one at Ricardo-CH. I now have one in my living room and the other one in my office. The third device went to a patient of my wife.

Half a year later a friend also wanted this PL-33. It took no less than 21 months until another such unit was offered on ebay-DE. So the turntable is very rare in contrast to the many Technics and RTL and Dual etc. But it is worth to have some patience. The playback qualities of this turntable are simply - to repeat it - fantastic! fantastic! And the eye enjoys it too!
