Remarks
- Previous model:
- Successor model:
- Other models in the same series:
- The Pioneer CT-S630 S was only built for 1 year. It was the first deck of the 6 series with a single capstan drive (previously dual capstan drive on CT-S610 and 620), which the stereo testers (Hifi magazine, see below) also resented. After him, the CT-S640 S was built by ALPS with the same motors and the same drive, but with an additional servo motor for the cassette compartment.

Reports
- STEREO 11/1994: no star (satisfactory). " + The perfect metering computer gets uncolored sound from all bands. - Single- capstan- drive with only two motors."
- STEREOPLAY 10/1994: top class II, price/performance: very good. "Clean piano touches with almost perfect background silence and the splendid, well-structured reproduction of entire orchestras catapulted the Pioneer deck right into the top class II. Nobody will complain about the fact that a recorder-ship like Sony's TC-K808 ES (1000 DM, top class II reference) can conjure up even more balance and stability from the tapes". (Stereoplay 10/1994, p.19)
