Description

The model was developed and manufactured by the Myro company by Michael Weidlich on behalf of the German distributor Audio Int'l as a period-correct loudspeaker. It was available as a finished loudspeaker and as a kit.
It is the sister model to the ESS PS-62, but does not contain a passive cone. For the technical background, see also the Myroclopedia.

The mid/bass driver runs largely unfiltered up to above 5 kHz. Three wave traps free it from its resonances. The AMT runs fully from about 1.7 kHz. This results in a wide overlapping range with softly merging phases.

This concept was extended with another midrange driver to the ESS PS-81. With the three-way version the horizontal dispersion is better, the vertical dispersion, however, is slightly worse.

Low frequency extension

On special customer request special models were developed with an identical chassis as additional woofer. The woofer module thus extended the PS-61 to a 2.5-way floorstanding speaker and gave it similarity to the standard ESS PS-261.

Press

"The ESS Connoisseur PS-61 is a great success for Audio Int'l: the compact two-way construction sets standards in terms of airiness and spaciousness. The sound image detaches perfectly from the speakers and creates an extremely authentic illusion."'

"One has to attest the ESS speakers a pleasantly musical playing style, which is rarely found in this price range."
