"D/A converter (recording analog sources e.g. phono to digital outputs e.g. computer)"
Probably not true? - at least with my AM93 it is unfortunately not so just wanted to say that I rather doubt that you can pass on signals from analog sources to digital devices with these old Akai; there would have to be additional A/D converters in there for that. As far as I know, the converters in these Akai's (AM75, AM93, AM95) are only those that can convert from digital to analog (i.e. D/A converters). This means that they can only accept signals from the digital output of a CD player, for example, or from the digital output of a PC sound card, convert them and pass them on in analogue form to their own power amplifier. Digital signals only go out at the outputs if the device already receives them digitally from somewhere else.
Response: I had an AM-95 and have an AM-75, both can pass analog sources digitally. I have already used this e.g. to record from the record player in the computer.
Price quote[edit]
I have here an old brochure from 1990. According to the price list the AM 95 should cost 1998 DM and the AM 75 1598 DM. I always assumed these prices and paid 1998 DM for the AM 95.
