Das AL-80 war zu seiner Zeit klanglich und ausstattungsmäßig ein Tapedeck der angehenden Spitzenklasse
 
wurde aber später in den Achtzigern von vielen Decks der oberen Mittelklasse qualitativ überholt.
 
Herausragendes Merkmal des Gerätes bleibt die Verwendung von Drehspiegelgalvanometern als Anzeigeinstrumente.
 
Wesentlich augenfreundlicher als die später standardmäßig verwendeten FL-Anzeigen. Diese sind auch wohl der
 
Grund für die in der Bucht üblicherweise aufgerufenen Mondpreise. Qualitativ hat Alpine wesentlich besseres
