Features of the Dynaudio Contour S 3.4:
The Contour S 3.4's cabinet is purposefully reinforced with bracing to create an absolutely vibration-free design. Inside, the MDF walls are coated at critical points with compacted damping material that absorbs even the smallest resonances. Together with the elaborate baffle construction, a high-strength unit is created, refined by the finely polished surface of a wood veneer. An innovative base plate guarantees a safe and perfectly shaped installation. Recessed threaded sleeves allow a sensitive spike adjustment from above and thus permit a perfect alignment. The crossover is located in the small base, the connection between the solid base plate and the cabinet body. This arrangement results in extremely short distances to the WBT terminals. Due to the optimal location outside the sound field, sensitive components are not tempted to disturbing resonance. The new Esotec tweeter proves to be extremely resilient and highly precise due to a powerful double magnet system. The shine on the filigree dome reveals a noble origin: the fabric is coated and thus guarantees the typical resolution in the high-frequency range - free of peaks above 20 kHz, as other materials show due to the system. The tweeter range is complemented by two powerful bass-midrange drivers, the legendary Esotar, which represent a large diaphragm area with double drive and are thus able to resolve even complex, low-frequency structures and reproduce them with a firm foundation. The two bass-midrange drivers are firmly attached to a heavy, five millimetre thick metal plate on the front. This way the Danes prevent unwanted movement; normal wooden baffles often can't cope with the immense acceleration forces of the diaphragms. The metal plate is firmly screwed to the cabinet - cushioned by a damping layer. This way the whole speaker is additionally calmed down. For the Esotec tweeter a precise cut-out was milled into the metal plate. This prevents bass vibrations from being transmitted via the metal plate to the sensitive tweeter. The tweeter itself is located relatively far down. With this (also visually striking) trick, Dynaudio developer Mark Thorup corrects the differences in running time of the voice coils to each other: The one of the bass-midrange driver sits significantly further back than that of the tweeter.
