AUDIO 12/2000: I WANT FUN
If Japanese HiFi electronics enjoy a good reputation, one still often turns up one's nose at the attempts of the Nippon engineers to develop loudspeakers. There have been too many listening tests over the years, the results of which at best fell under the heading of 'trying but ...'. One of the pleasant exceptions is the new Yamaha NS 120.
The slim floorstanding speaker stands out visually from the "box" monotony. ... At a price of ... Mark the workmanship can be considered outstanding.
The fact that there was still some financial leeway for high quality drivers is even more pleasing. ...
The crossover of the NS 120 has only four components - and less can be more, as confirmed in the listening test. There the speaker pleased with a very balanced presentation. The soft dark timbre ensured stress-free long term enjoyment without regrets. Superficial showmanship was not the NS 120's thing.
A real surprise!
