− | |||
− | + | A main feature of the Blu-ray Disc is the high storage capacity 25 GB (single-layer) and 50 GB (dual-layer), about 6 times that of a DVD (4.7 GB single-layer). Another plus point is the high data transfer rate (BD-ROM: max. 54 Mbps), which far exceeds that of a TV transmission or a download via broadband Internet. These features enable the BD-ROM to store the entire Full HD signal. Enjoy high-definition video in your living room just as you would in the cinema.

− | + | Full-High-Definition 1080p
+ | All the content on a Blu-ray disc is available in Full High Definition. The BDP-S350 supports 1080p output (1920 x 1080 pixels in progressive format) via the HDMI cable. By connecting to a BRAVIA TV that supports Full HD 1080p, the Blu-ray Disc can really show off its excellent picture quality.<br>

+ | 24P True Cinema | ||
− | + | 24P True Cinema | |
− | + | Motion pictures are usually recorded at a frame rate of 24 frames per second (fps). Since the DVD player must convert movies at 24 fps to match the TV format (NTSC: 60 fields per second, PAL: 50 fields per second), the 24 fps frame rate cannot be accurately reproduced. For this reason, films run about 4% faster in the PAL system and unnatural motion sequences occur in the NTSC format. Thanks to 24p True Cinema, output is at the same 24 fps frame rate as the original film material. The same motion sequences typical of cinema film are now also delivered to your home.
+ | (24P True Cinema requires a 24p-compatible TV)
− | + | Precision Cinema HD Upscale
− | + | The player converts the standard definition (480i) signal of a DVD to 1080p and outputs a resolution equivalent to the Full HD video signal. Precision Cinema HD Upscale accurately generates each pixel to match the original material - whether it's film or video, moving or still. Precision Cinema HD Upscale compensates for line and edge artifacts for an overall harmonious look. Content from a DVD is reproduced with greater detail than before.

− | + | x. v. Colour | |
− | + | x. v. Colour is a feature that can reproduce a wider colour space than the standard colour space. The player is capable of reproducing film material in "x. v. Colour" as it was recorded by a high definition camcorder and stored on a disc.

− | + | PhotoTV HD | |
+ | PhotoTV HD provides detailed, photorealistic images with fine textures and lifelike colours. Connecting to Sony PhotoTV HD compatible devices opens up new perspectives on viewing images in HD quality. The fine texture of human skin, flowers, sand and waves now appear in large format in stunning quality.
+ | The player is PhotoTV HD compatible. Digital photos stored on a disc can be presented in excellent, photo-realistic quality on a TV compatible with PhotoTV HD.
− | + | '''Sound Quality'''
− | |||
− | + | Thanks to its high storage capacity, the sound quality of a Blu-ray Dics far surpasses that of a DVD. The player is compatible with the latest 7.1-channel lossless compression format (Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio). It also supports the linear PCM format, an uncompressed audio format with up to 7.1-channel surround sound. Users can now benefit from this high level of sound, which no conventional software can deliver, at home.

Sony's new Blu-ray player offers a complete range of functions, including advanced features for Internet-based content, as well as HD video quality and superior high-resolution surround sound.

Full-High-Definition 1080p
All the content on a Blu-ray disc is available in Full High Definition. The BDP-S350 supports 1080p output (1920 x 1080 pixels in progressive format) via the HDMI cable. By connecting to a BRAVIA TV that supports Full HD 1080p, the Blu-ray Disc can really show off its excellent picture quality.
(1080p requires a 1080p compatible TV).
24P True Cinema
24P True Cinema Motion pictures are usually recorded at a frame rate of 24 frames per second (fps). Since the DVD player must convert movies at 24 fps to match the TV format (NTSC: 60 fields per second, PAL: 50 fields per second), the 24 fps frame rate cannot be accurately reproduced. Precision Cinema HD Upscale The player converts the standard definition (480i) signal of a DVD to 1080p and outputs a resolution equivalent to the Full HD video signal. Precision Cinema HD Upscale accurately generates each pixel to match the original material - whether it's film or video, moving or still. PhotoTV HD PhotoTV HD provides detailed, photorealistic images with fine textures and lifelike colours. HD Audio Connectivity Different types of AV receivers enable the excellent sound experience.
1. bitstream signal via HDMI (Connect to an AV receiver capable of decoding an HD audio signal). 2. decoded PCM signal via HDMI (Connection to an AV receiver that is not capable of decoding an HD sound signal.) 3. decoded analogue signal via analogue two-channel output (Connection to an AV receiver without HDMI connection.)
Easy Operation BRAVIA Sync
By connecting to a BRAVIA Sync compatible device via an HDMI cable, component operations can be linked.
* One-touch playback Pressing the playback button turns on the TV and home cinema system, switches to HMDI input and starts the movie. * System Standby When the TV is turned off via the remote control, the connected home theater system and player also turn off. * System Sound Control The Theatre button on the remote control optimises the picture for BRAVIA Cine mode. Automatic selection of sound between the speakers of the TV and the Home Theatre system is possible.
XrossMediaBar The graphical user interface "XrossMediaBar" offers easy and intuitive operation through the four-way control button.
Switch-on time Compared to the previous model (BDP-S300), the power-on time has been reduced considerably. The player is ready to start within a few seconds. Quick Start" mode must be set).
Construction
Smallest Blu-ray Disc player from Sony. The size (dimensions see general data) could be reduced to 45% of the dimensions of the previous model BDP-S 300.
Extremely stable frame Since the main unit is much smaller than conventional units, an extra strong frame has been used. The reduction of vibration transmission supports the high-quality HD audio signal output.
Precision Drive HD Precision Drive HD detects and controls the correct tracking of a disc from three sides. In addition, the optical unit ensures accurate playback of the Blu-ray Disc or DVD. These unique Sony technologies even enable stable playback of a curved or slightly scratched disc.
Interactive Features
BonusView When playing a Blu-ray disc with "BonusView", functions such as simultaneous playback of director's commentary or superimposing the storyboard as a picture-in-picture view are available. These interactive functions are not available in the cinema, but only with a Blu-ray Disc. (Profile 1.1 compatible)
BD-Live When the player is connected to the Internet and a BD-Live compatible disc is played, you can access additional content such as special scenes or games provided by the movie studio. - An update is available for BD-Live compatibility of the S350. - A USB flash memory is required to use BD-Live (optional).
Network Update Applications can be updated to the latest version via the Internet. These updates allow continuous development of the player in a user-friendly way.
